POLICE SCOTLAND YOUTH VOLUNTEERS – DUNDEE

Posted on 21 April 2024

Police Scotland Youth Volunteers – Baluniefield Police Station, Dundee

Kanzen Karate attended at Baluniefield Police Station, Dundee, where they spent the day delivering comprehensive Personal Safety Awareness sessions to Police Scotland Youth Volunteers. While not the exhaustive list of content, one session focused around situational awareness, forward planning, behavioural recognition, tactical communication, de-escalation, and informed decision to avoid violent encounters where possible and mitigate the risk of harm.

There was also a physical session which introduced some basic self-protection concepts but was not aimed at teaching those present how to fight. Rather, the intention was to help establish the individual’s current skill levels and potential capabilities to provide personal insight into what defensive skills they currently have and how these skills could be developed further with additional training if desired or deemed necessary.

PC Sam Hogg, PSYV Group Coordinator, Police Scotland said:

“Your style of teaching is perfect for young people and every youth, as well as the adults who attended on the day of our input learned something valuable and will remember these lessons for years to come. The planning and execution of the whole input was flawless and pitched completely at the right level. Your communication prior to the input was very clear and aided me in my part in the planning so thank you for that.

“The practical aspect of the day was very well received by all who took part, everyone learned skills that will serve them in life, and all this was done in a controlled and safe manner a task no easy when you have a room full of young people. Everyone left on the day upskilled and with the knowledge you have imparted upon them from your years of experience. I would relish the chance to have another input with yourself in the future.”
